Surrey Schools Gear Up for Sept. 2 Back-to-School Start

Surrey Schools Prepare for Back-to-School on Sept. 2

The countdown is on as Surrey Schools get ready to welcome students back to classrooms on Tuesday, Sept. 2. With the back-to-school season here, families across Surrey and White Rock are receiving important updates to help students start the year smoothly.

Office Hours Before Classes Begin

Secondary school offices are already open after 9 a.m. on weekdays, while elementary school offices reopen starting Aug. 25 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Parents are encouraged to confirm details directly with their child’s school.

Kindergarten to Grade 7: Key Details

Kindergarten students will begin the year with a gradual entry schedule lasting two weeks. Each school will provide families with exact start times by email or website updates. Full-time attendance for all kindergarten students begins Sept. 15.

Grades 1 to 7 classes begin at 10 a.m. on opening day, with early dismissal. Families should confirm schedules with individual schools for specific start and dismissal times.

Secondary Schools and Special Programs

Students in Grades 8 to 12 will also have shortened first days. Exact start and end times vary by school and grade, so parents are advised to check with each secondary school.

Learning Centres and the Surrey Academy of Innovative Learning (SAIL) will share their schedules directly with students. More information for SAIL can be found at sailacademy.ca.\

Adult Education and English Language Learners

Registration for Adult Education begins Aug. 25, with classes starting in September. Details and contact information are available at surreyschools.ca/adulted.

For English language learners, the district’s Welcome Centre provides registration help, placement assessments, and support services, including settlement and multicultural worker assistance.

Preparing Families for a Smooth Transition

Parents and caregivers new to the district can access registration information at surreyschools.ca/register. Families are strongly encouraged to confirm dates, times, and updates directly with individual schools before the first day.

The back-to-school season is a busy but exciting time, and Surrey Schools are prepared to make the transition as smooth as possible for students and families.
