Vancouver Rise FC Makes History With Unbeaten Streak

Vancouver Rise FC defeated AFC Toronto 1-0 on Aug. 17 at BMO Field, tying the Northern Super League record with five straight unbeaten matches. Jessica De Filippo scored the lone goal early in the second half, while goalkeeper Morgan McAslan earned her sixth clean sheet. Despite playing a man down after Jasmyne Spencer’s red card, Rise FC became the first team in league history to win short-handed. Vancouver Rise FC Extends Historic Run

Vancouver Rise FC made league history on Sunday, Aug. 17, after defeating AFC Toronto 1-0 at BMO Field. The victory tied the Northern Super League record for the longest undefeated streak, now standing at five matches.

A Hard-Fought Match in Toronto

Despite controlling possession just 45% of the game, Rise FC matched Toronto with six shots on goal each. The turning point came early in the second half when forward Jessica De Filippo scored her third goal of the season, silencing the home crowd just 25 seconds after kickoff.

Playing Short-Handed

The match was far from easy. In the 39th minute, midfielder Jasmyne Spencer received a yellow card followed quickly by a red, forcing Vancouver to play with 10 players. Remarkably, Rise FC became the first team in league history to secure a win while shorthanded.

Goalkeeper’s Standout Performance

Goalkeeper Morgan McAslan posted her sixth clean sheet of the season, anchoring the defense under pressure. “It was a dream come true to play at BMO Field,” McAslan said in a team video, adding that she had once watched Canadian legend Steph Labbé play there.
