On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, just after 3 p.m., crews responded to a fire in the 7000-block of 184 Street in Clayton Heights, Surrey, targeting a residence with deep local cultural heritage.
A Fierce Blaze, Swift Response
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke, visible flames consuming the front facade and a nearby vehicle. Witnesses reported hearing explosions and seeing the car ablaze before the fire spread into the structure.
Extensive Damage, Contained Crown and Attic
Fire crews attacked the blaze both inside and outside the structure. Their efforts successfully prevented the fire from breaching the attic and roof; however, the building sustained extensive damage throughout.

Originally opened in 1936 as Clayton United Church, the building later housed the Surrey Little Theatre beginning in the 1960s. It hosted local performances for decades before community changes prompted its closure as a theatre.

In June 2021, Surrey Little Theatre merged with Langley Players to form Langley Little Theatre. The Langley Playhouse, now refurbished and seating 80, was built using funds from the sale of the Clayton Heights property.
