West Kelowna’s RadRelish turns 55,000 pounds of surplus zucchini into flavorful relish, fighting food waste with a tasty twist.
Local Company Turns Food Waste Into Flavor
In West Kelowna, one small business has pulled off a massive save: 55,000 pounds of zucchini that were headed straight for the landfill. Instead of rotting away, all that fresh produce is being transformed into jars of RadRelish—proof that food waste can be both preventable and delicious.
From Jam to Relish: A Mission to End Food Waste
It all began in 2016, when co-owner Kyla King launched RadJamz with a simple but powerful goal: to keep good food out of the trash. By 2021, the project had grown when Garrett Millsap came on board. Together, they created RadRelish, featuring a recipe that dates back to Millsap’s grandmother—a classic zucchini relish passed down through generations.
A Timely Call That Sparked a Big Idea
Just last month, King got a call from the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. They had a surplus of zucchini and needed a solution before the crop spoiled. Instead of letting it go to waste, RadRelish stepped in to turn the glut into something people could enjoy at their tables.
Fighting Food Waste, One Jar at a Time
What makes RadRelish stand out is more than just its bold flavor—it’s the story behind it. Every jar represents food that’s been rescued, preserved, and given a second life. Beyond the relish, the company’s mission continues to raise awareness about the importance of cutting down on food waste and making sustainable choices.
