Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd brought high energy to Vancouver’s Pacific Coliseum on Sunday, August 17, as part of the 2025 PNE Summer Night Concerts. Fans filled the arena for a 90-minute set featuring classics like Sweet Home Alabama and an extended Free Bird finale. With the PNE’s new amphitheatre still under construction, concerts continue at the Coliseum through September 1, including upcoming shows by Bleachers, Gipsy Kings, Leon Bridges, and Foreigner.

Lynyrd Skynyrd Rocks PNE Coliseum as Fans Roar

Lynyrd Skynyrd electrifies Vancouver’s PNE with a 90-minute southern-rock show, free with fair admission; epic ‘Free Bird’ encore caps a night to remember.

Southern Rock at the PNE Fair

The Pacific National Exhibition’s Summer Night Concerts continued Sunday, August 17, at Vancouver’s Pacific Coliseum, where southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd performed before a packed audience. The show was part of the 2025 PNE Fair, which runs from August 16 to September 1.

Fans Pack Coliseum for Iconic Band

Music enthusiasts from across the Lower Mainland filled the venue, with many also enjoying the fairgrounds before and after the concert. Canadian flags waved from the crowd as Skynyrd performed, underscoring the band’s effort to connect with their northern neighbours.

Tribute and Milestone on Stage

The current lineup, led by Johnny Van Zant, delivered a high-energy set while paying tribute to the group’s history. On-screen candles honoured 16 late members, including guitarist Gary Rossington. The evening was promoted as “50 years of Skynyrd,” though the band’s origins date back to 1968.

An Electric Finale for the Night

The performance featured fan favourites such as “Sweet Home Alabama,” with the night closing on a soaring, extended guitar solo during “Free Bird.” Rickey Medlocke commanded the stage as fans cheered and raised fists, ending the 90-minute set on a climactic note.

Concerts Continue All Week

With the new Freedom Mobile Arch amphitheatre still under construction, the Pacific Coliseum remains the main stage for 2025. Upcoming concerts include Bleachers on Tuesday, Gipsy Kings on Wednesday, Leon Bridges on Saturday, and Foreigner later this month.

A Fair Tradition for 115 Years

Now celebrating “115 years of fun,” the PNE Fair continues to draw families and music fans daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The fair features rides, food, live shows, and concerts included with admission. More details and ticketing information are available at pne.ca.
