Join the community in White Rock on August 17 for a second summer litter cleanup along the waterfront, hosted by Green Team and the city.
Community Unites to Clean White Rock’s Waterfront Again
Returning to Action
This Sunday, August 17, Green Team of Canada’s Lower Mainland and the City of White Rock will host a second community litter-cleanup event. From 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., volunteers will reconvene on the beach and Marine Drive in White Rock, offering another opportunity this summer to make a meaningful environmental impact.
Building on Past Success
The initiative follows a successful cleanup on July 20, when 56 local participants rallied to remove over 123 pounds of litter from the beach and Marine Drive. Their efforts diverted more than 2,500 pieces of trash from potentially entering the ocean—including over 1,300 cigarette butts, along with numerous wrappers, bottles, cups, and other debris.
Why It Matters
By reducing litter in the coastal environment, the event promotes ocean protection, fosters community bonds, and raises awareness about the harmful effects of pollution on wildlife and ecosystems. It’s a grassroots solution to a pressing environmental issue—and every participant makes a difference.
Where to Join
Volunteers will gather at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday at the Oxford Comfort Station, located at the end of Oxford Street in White Rock. The cleanup site is conveniently situated along the waterfront, accessible to residents and visitors alike.
Inclusive and Prepared
With 45 volunteers already signed up, organizers welcome all ages and abilities—no prior experience required. The Green Team will supply safety vests, gloves, litter pickers, buckets, bags, and snacks for all participants. It’s a family-friendly, community-strengthening opportunity.
How to Participate
Interested individuals can sign up via the Meetup page: meetup.com/the-lower-mainland-green-team/events/308398801/. Organizers encourage anyone looking to give back to the environment to participate—spaces are still available.
Looking Ahead
This second cleanup of the season continues White Rock’s momentum toward cleaner beaches and stronger environmental stewardship. As summer winds down, the community’s collective efforts will leave behind a brighter, healthier waterfront for all.
