Quesnel’s Brooklynn Novak Set to Represent Canada in Winnipeg

From small-town practice sessions to the world stage

Brooklynn Novak, a 20-year-old archer from Quesnel, B.C., is preparing to compete at the World Archery Youth Championships, taking place in Winnipeg from Aug. 17 to 25. Novak, one of only two British Columbians on Archery Canada’s roster, will compete in the under-21 compound women’s division.

A rapid rise in the sport

Novak first picked up a bow in 2020, inspired by her brother, but pandemic restrictions delayed her training. She began practicing seriously in September 2022, and within four months, she earned third place at the 2023 Indoor Provincials. “Everyone’s told me I’ve had a natural talent for shooting,” Novak said.

From provincial podiums to the national team

Her quick progress continued with a silver medal at the 2024 Canadian Outdoor Archery Championships in Fredericton, followed by a gold medal at the B.C. Provincial Outdoor Championships. These achievements secured her a spot on the national team.

Family pride and hometown support

News of her selection brought joy to her family. “My mom was jumping up and down,” Novak recalled, adding that her grandparents shared the news with friends around town.

Intense training ahead of the competition

Under the guidance of coach Dale Chapplow, Novak has been training at the Quesnel range to sharpen her accuracy and consistency. She departs for Winnipeg on Aug. 15, aiming to make her mark on the global stage.

Aiming high for Canada

With less than three years in competitive archery, Novak’s rapid ascent reflects determination, focus, and raw talent. As she steps onto the international field, she carries the hopes of her community—and Canada—on her shoulders.
