Trade-Focused MLA Shapes Economic Future

Burnaby South-Metrotown MLA Paul Choi is emerging as a key figure in British Columbia’s economic and trade policy. Elected in 2024, Choi currently serves as the Parliamentary Secretary for Trade to the Minister of Jobs and Economic Growth. With a strong background in law, small business, and public service, his focus is on building sustainable economic partnerships at home and abroad.

From Front Lines to Legislative Chambers

Choi’s path to politics began on the ground—as a first responder, small business owner, and practicing lawyer. Drawing on this diverse experience, he brings a practical, community-first approach to his legislative work. Prior to becoming an MLA, Choi was recognized nationally as a Qualified Mediator and Arbitrator through the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Canada, and served in leadership positions within the Canadian Bar Association.

Leadership Rooted in Burnaby and Beyond

Deeply connected to Burnaby’s civic and business life, Choi has held various leadership roles including President of the Burnaby North Road Business Improvement Association and Vice-Chair of the Registration Committee for the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC. He also contributed to higher education governance as a board member at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

Recognized for Youth Leadership and Innovation

In 2020, Choi’s contributions to business and community development were recognized when he received the Young Professional of the Year Award. His active involvement in multiple advisory committees highlights his commitment to inclusive policy development and public engagement.

Bridging Asia-Pacific and Local Economies

Before assuming his current portfolio, Choi served as the Parliamentary Secretary for Asia-Pacific Trade. His work focused on leveraging British Columbia’s strategic position in global trade networks. Now, in his new role, Choi continues to build connections between local businesses and international markets, advocating for policies that support economic resilience and innovation.

A Vision for Jobs and Economic Growth

Through his legislative work and community involvement, Choi aims to drive long-term economic development while maintaining a focus on public service. With Burnaby South-Metrotown as his home base, he is positioning British Columbia as a leader in both domestic and international trade strategies.
