Over 20,000 gathered in Surrey for RED-FM’s Summer Bhangra Jam, a free cultural event with music, dance, food, and family fun at Holland Park.
Massive Turnout for Cultural Celebration in Surrey
An estimated 20,000 attendees gathered at Holland Park in Surrey on Saturday, August 2, for the second annual Summer Bhangra Jam, hosted by popular Punjabi radio station RED-FM. The free, day-long event celebrated South Asian culture through music, dance, and food, creating a vibrant atmosphere in the heart of the city.
Headlining Artists Draw Excited Crowds
The festival’s main stage featured electrifying performances by Gurnam Bhullar and Harjit Harman, two of the biggest names in Punjabi music. The energy in the crowd soared as fans danced to live Bhangra beats, many waving flags, dressed in colorful traditional attire, and singing along to popular hits.
Event Location Creates Community Hub
Held at Surrey’s Holland Park, the venue was transformed into a buzzing cultural space with food trucks, artisan stalls, and a dedicated kids’ zone. The central location made it accessible to residents from across the Lower Mainland, adding to the high turnout and festive mood.
Purpose Behind the Celebration
RED-FM organized the event to bring communities together in celebration of South Asian heritage and to provide an inclusive space for cultural expression. “This was one of the most electrifying Punjabi events of the season,” said Pooja Sekhon, program director at RED-FM. “The thumping beats, colourful vibes, and non-stop entertainment brought together Bhangra lovers for a day of pure desi magic.”
Sponsored Support Helps Keep Event Free
The celebration was made possible with sponsorship from Scotiabank, among others, helping keep the event free for all attendees. This approach encouraged participation from diverse backgrounds, aligning with Surrey’s multicultural identity.
Organizers Look Ahead to Future Events
Given the success of the event for the second year in a row, organizers say they hope to expand Summer Bhangra Jam in the coming years. RED-FM plans to continue spotlighting South Asian talent while creating larger, more inclusive experiences for Surrey’s growing and vibrant community.
