Surrey-City Centre MLA Amna Shah is making waves in B.C. politics as a strong advocate for anti-racism, mental health, and community support.

A New Face with a Clear Mission

Amna Shah, elected in 2024 as the MLA for Surrey-City Centre, is quickly establishing herself as a prominent figure in British Columbia’s political landscape. Representing a dynamic and diverse community, Shah brings nearly two decades of lived experience in Surrey to her roles in government, advocating for equity, mental health, and community welfare.

Active Leadership in Government Roles

Currently, Shah serves as the Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Racism Initiatives to the Attorney General and Deputy Premier, as well as the Parliamentary Secretary for Mental Health and Addictions. Her dual portfolio highlights the province’s commitment to addressing systemic discrimination and improving mental health services—two areas she has prioritized since taking office.

In addition to her secretarial duties, she also holds the position of Deputy Government Whip, supporting legislative coordination and party discipline within the B.C. NDP caucus.

Deep Community Roots and Volunteer Service

Before entering provincial politics, Shah was widely known for her grassroots work in Surrey. She served as a board director for the Surrey Food Bank and worked as Outreach Director with the B.C. Government Caucus, where she championed community engagement and public service initiatives.

Her volunteerism and advocacy earned her the trust of voters who sought a representative closely aligned with the challenges and aspirations of Surrey residents.

Representing Surrey with Purpose

Shah’s connection to Surrey is both personal and professional. Having lived in the city for nearly 20 years, she has witnessed firsthand the rapid growth and evolving needs of its population. Her political vision reflects a deep commitment to creating inclusive policies that meet local needs, especially in one of B.C.’s fastest-growing urban centres.

Looking Ahead

Amna Shah’s rising influence signals a generational shift in Surrey’s political voice. As she continues her term, her focus remains on amplifying the needs of marginalized communities, expanding mental health support systems, and ensuring every resident feels seen, safe, and supported.

With her blend of grassroots experience and government leadership, Shah represents a modern approach to provincial politics—one rooted in advocacy, accountability, and action.
