Surrey Approves $2M Skylight Upgrade at Police HQ

Surrey City Council has approved a $2.08 million project to replace deteriorating skylights and curtain wall glazing at the Surrey Police Service headquarters in Newton. The contract, awarded to The Restorers Group Inc. for $1.89 million, follows an engineering assessment that identified multiple system failures due to aging infrastructure and persistent leaks. The upgrade aims to address safety concerns and extend the building’s lifespan.

Surrey Targets 27.8% Housing Boost by End of 2026

Surrey is set to increase its housing supply by 27.8% by December 2026, aiming to issue 13,000 new housing units under the federal Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF). The city has already surpassed its second-year target with 9,017 units issued as of May 2025. In return, Surrey will receive $100.7 million in federal funding, contingent on meeting annual targets. The city has implemented over 25 process improvements to speed up approvals and is updating Neighbourhood Concept Plans to align with market needs. Council also endorsed zoning changes to support affordable housing, addressing a projected demand for over 53,000 new homes in five years.
