Delta Proposes Multi-Sport Hub at John Oliver Park

The City of Delta has unveiled a proposal to redevelop John Oliver Park into a major multi-sport tournament complex. The 20-hectare park, centrally located in East Delta, currently features natural grass fields and a fieldhouse. The city presented three redevelopment concepts that retain current sports uses while introducing facilities like cricket pitches, pickleball courts, and artificial turf fields. However, significant portions of the park lie within the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR), and full implementation hinges on securing non-farm-use approval from the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC). While council has approved public engagement, ALC application, and access improvement talks, concerns remain about potential delays and regulatory hurdles.
