Location and Timeline of Incident

A tense standoff unfolded Wednesday afternoon in South Surrey after a man allegedly armed with a firearm barricaded himself inside a residence. The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on July 30 at a home near 158 Street and 20 Avenue, drawing a coordinated response from multiple law enforcement units.

Origin of the Alert

The situation began when Richmond RCMP alerted Surrey Police Service (SPS) of a potential threat involving a firearm. Acting swiftly on the tip, SPS officers moved to contain the property in question.

Law Enforcement Response

SPS was joined by the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service and the RCMP’s Lower Mainland Urban Patrol Helicopter in securing the area. Officers established a perimeter around the residence to prevent escalation and ensure public safety.

Peaceful Resolution Through Negotiation

Trained negotiators from SPS initiated communication with the suspect. After a period of negotiations, the man complied with police requests and exited the home without incident. He was taken into custody without the use of force, according to an SPS news release.
