TELUS Brings Next-Generation Wi‑Fi 7 to Canadians

TELUS, one of Canada’s largest telecom providers, has taken a major leap forward by launching Wi‑Fi 7 technology nationwide. TELUS, one of Canada’s largest telecom providers, has taken a major leap forward by launching Wi‑Fi 7 technology nationwide. With this upgrade, homes and businesses can now experience internet speeds up to four times faster than the current Wi‑Fi 6 standard.

This rollout positions TELUS as one of the first telecom giants in Canada to deliver Wi‑Fi 7 on a broad scale, aiming to meet growing demands for seamless, high-speed connectivity in an increasingly digital world.

What Is Wi‑Fi 7, and Why Does It Matter?

Wi‑Fi 7, also known as IEEE 802.11be, is the next evolution in wireless technology. It significantly enhances:

  • Speed: Up to 46 Gbps — ideal for 4K/8K streaming, online gaming, and large file transfers
  • Stability: Lower latency for smoother video calls and virtual meetings
  • Capacity: Supports more devices without slowing down the network

For Canadian households juggling work-from-home routines, smart devices, and entertainment needs, this is a game-changer.

Who Can Access It?

The new Wi‑Fi 7 technology will be available to TELUS PureFibre customers across major urban centers first, including Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, and Montreal, with more regions added soon.

Customers will need a Wi‑Fi 7-enabled modem/router, which TELUS will begin offering as part of their PureFibre Gigabit+ plans.

TELUS’ Vision for a Connected Canada

This move aligns with TELUS’ ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability. The company is investing billions into expanding fiber-optic infrastructure and enhancing network resilience, especially in underserved communities.

According to a statement by Tony Geheran, COO at TELUS:

“We are excited to bring Canadians the most advanced home internet technology available. Wi‑Fi 7 represents a leap forward in performance, reliability, and responsiveness.”

How to Upgrade

If you’re an existing TELUS customer:

  1. Log into your TELUS account
  2. Check eligibility for the Wi‑Fi 7 upgrade
  3. Book a free modem/router replacement or upgrade your plan

For new customers, Wi‑Fi 7 is now bundled with select internet packages starting at $120/month.

Why This Matters for Canadian Tech Growth

With TELUS leading the charge, Canada joins countries like the U.S., South Korea, and Japan in early adoption of Wi‑Fi 7. This enhances our competitiveness and digital readiness for technologies like smart homes, telehealth, AI, and remote work solutions.

📌 Quick Facts:

  • Speed Boost: Up to 4× faster than Wi‑Fi 6
  • Launch Date: July 2025
  • Availability: Across major Canadian cities
  • Device Requirement: Wi‑Fi 7-enabled routers
  • Target Users: Households, small businesses, remote workers, gamers
