Bell Teams Up with Cohere to Secure Canada’s AI Future

Bell and Cohere launch Bell AI Fabric, a sovereign AI platform to serve Canadian governments and businesses with secure, homegrown AI tools.

Bell Canada and Toronto-based AI company Cohere have announced a strategic partnership to launch Bell AI Fabric, a sovereign, full-stack AI platform built to serve Canada’s government and enterprise sectors. This marks a major step in strengthening domestic AI capacity with a focus on data sovereignty, innovation, and secure infrastructure.

As part of the collaboration, Cohere will integrate its enterprise-grade AI tools, including its agentic AI platform North, into Bell AI Fabric. Bell becomes Cohere’s preferred AI infrastructure provider in Canada, while Cohere is named Bell’s go-to provider for large language models (LLMs) and agentic AI solutions.

The rollout of Bell AI Fabric will span four foundational layers. First, the platform will run on high-performance, Canada-based data centres powered by clean hydroelectric energy. Second, it will offer custom-trained LLMs and software built specifically for the Canadian market. Third, Bell will provide expert advisory and integration services through its enterprise tech division, Ateko. Finally, the operational layer will be powered by Cohere’s North platform, enabling secure and scalable AI applications.

Mirko Bibic, President and CEO of BCE Inc. and Bell Canada, stated: “We’re proud to partner with Cohere to build a sovereign, full-stack AI solution that keeps Canadian data secure while unlocking transformative capabilities for governments and businesses.” He added that this move supports Canada’s growing AI ecosystem and prioritizes sustainable infrastructure.

Aidan Gomez, Co-founder and CEO of Cohere, emphasized the significance of the collaboration, stating: “This partnership gives Canadian organizations access to world-class, security-first AI. It’s a transformative step for productivity and data privacy.”

The Honourable Evan Solomon, Canada’s Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, also praised the initiative: “Bell and Cohere are helping Canada lead on the global AI stage. This partnership reflects our innovation spirit and strengthens our sovereign AI future.”

This alliance carries major implications. With all AI processing remaining within Canadian borders, it ensures strict compliance for governments and regulated industries. It also builds out the country’s largest sovereign AI infrastructure while putting a strong emphasis on security, privacy, and resilience.

Looking ahead, Cohere’s North platform will be deployed across major government departments and enterprises, offering automation and enhanced efficiency. Bell will also adopt North internally, setting a new benchmark for Ateko’s consulting capabilities. In addition, new AI data centres are planned for British Columbia and Ontario, further expanding Bell’s infrastructure footprint using clean, renewable energy.
