Surrey Moves Ahead With Year-Round Soccer Hub in Cloverdale

Surrey has taken a major step in expanding its community sports infrastructure. On July 14, City Council approved a 30-year lease agreement with the Surrey United Soccer Club (SUSC) to build and operate a new covered practice facility at Cloverdale Athletic Park.

This facility will support year-round training, ensuring athletes of all ages have access to top-tier turf, rain or shine. Mayor Brenda Locke called the move “an exciting milestone,” reinforcing the city’s commitment to community partnerships that benefit youth, families, and future generations.

The lease stems from a larger partnership framework approved by Council in February 2025. That plan aimed to provide a permanent, weather-resistant space for soccer training and other recreational uses. The new structure will house a covered turf area designed for both SUSC programs and broader community access.

SUSC has already submitted development and building permit applications to move the project forward. Once permits are approved, construction will begin.

Coun. Gordon Hepner, Chair of the Parks, Recreation and Sport Tourism Committee, noted that the facility would not only serve club players but also provide a multi-generational boost to youth soccer in Surrey. He emphasized that this initiative complements other upgrades at Cloverdale Athletic Park, including two new artificial turf fields and expanded parking.
