A 17-year-old from Surrey has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old boy in downtown Vancouver near Robson Square on July 19.
Arrest Made in Vancouver Teen’s Stabbing Death
A 17-year-old Surrey youth was arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old boy that occurred late on July 19 in downtown Vancouver. The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) confirmed the arrest on July 22 and stated the investigation remains ongoing.
Incident Occurred Near Robson Square Late at Night
According to a statement from Vancouver Police Sergeant Steve Addison, the stabbing took place shortly before 11:40 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, near the Vancouver Law Courts at Smithe and Hornby Street. A passerby who witnessed the aftermath called 9-1-1. Officers located the severely injured teen a short distance away on Howe Street.
Life-Saving Efforts Unsuccessful
Despite rapid emergency response and efforts to resuscitate the victim, the 15-year-old—also a Surrey resident—was pronounced dead in hospital early Sunday morning. Police described the event as a “violent altercation” that escalated fatally.
Suspect Surrendered Voluntarily
The suspect was taken into custody around 11 p.m. on Monday, July 22, after voluntarily surrendering to a VPD patrol officer near Kingsway and Nanaimo Street. Police have not yet released his identity due to his age.
Investigation Continues, Charges Pending
As of now, charges have not been laid. Sergeant Addison stated that the investigation is still active and more information will be provided as it becomes available. The motive behind the stabbing has not been publicly confirmed.

Investigators are appealing to anyone with information or dash-cam footage taken between 11:30 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. on July 19 in the downtown area bordered by Georgia, Smithe, Howe, and Hornby Streets to contact the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500.
