Surrey OKs 30-Year Lease for New Indoor Soccer Facility

Surrey City Council approves 30-year lease for indoor training facility in Cloverdale Athletic Park in partnership with Surrey United Soccer Club.

Surrey OKs 30-Year Lease for New Indoor Soccer Facility

Surrey Greenlights Covered Soccer Facility in Cloverdale Park

Surrey is teaming up with a local soccer club to bring a new covered training facility to Cloverdale Athletic Park. The partnership, recently approved by City Council, allows the Surrey United Soccer Club (SUSC) to lease city-owned land for up to 30 years.

Council approved the move during its July 14 meeting by endorsing Corporate Report 2025-R148, tabled by the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department. The lease agreement will allow SUSC to plan, build, and operate a modern indoor facility—giving a major boost to community sports infrastructure.

New Facility, Long-Term Vision

The lease kicks off with an initial 15-year term, with two optional renewals—first for 10 years, then for 5 more. That brings the potential partnership length to a full 30 years.

Laurie Cavan, Surrey’s GM of Parks and Recreation, emphasized that this long-term commitment will help SUSC recover capital investment through facility revenues. “The lease also outlines operating conditions to ensure alignment with city standards,” she said.

What’s Coming to Cloverdale Athletic Park

The new facility will be located at 6348 168th Street, replacing part of the existing gravel field and adjacent grass football field. The covered building will take up half the current all-weather field, while the parking area will be constructed on top of the grass field along 64th Avenue, near the bike park.

Cavan noted the project aligns with the city’s strategy of working alongside community groups to build new recreational opportunities. “The City provides the land through a nominal lease, while SUSC handles construction and operations,” she explained.

A Local Club With a Big Footprint

SUSC is one of Surrey’s largest soccer clubs, with thousands of active members. The club has previously invested in the area, including a $225,000 contribution toward the red fieldhouse at Cloverdale Park.

With city approval now in place, construction is expected to begin by the end of summer 2025, and if all goes to plan, the new facility could open as early as June 2026.
