Shanda Hill Breaks Her Own World Record in Epic Deca Triathlon

Canada Day turned into a day of triumph for Vernon’s own Shanda Hill. The 42-year-old ultra athlete didn’t just beat her previous world record—she demolished it by more than 14 hours at the grueling Bretzel Ultra Deca Triathlon in Colmar, France.

A Race Like No Other

Hill’s achievement is nothing short of legendary. The Deca Triathlon is one of the world’s toughest endurance challenges, demanding athletes to:

  • Swim 38 kilometers
  • Bike 1,800 kilometers
  • Run 422 kilometers

Shanda Hill crossed the finish line in 225 hours, 10 minutes, and 25 seconds, smashing her previous record (set in Brazil) of 239 hours, 14 minutes, and 22 seconds.

Overcoming Pain and Pushing Limits

What makes Hill’s victory even more remarkable? She completed the race with a severe ankle laceration—an injury so deep it required stitches after a biking accident. Yet, she pressed on, battling pain, heat, and exhaustion, proving her mental and physical toughness.

Top Woman, Second Overall

Out of 15 competitors, Hill was the fastest woman and finished second overall, trailing the top male finisher, France’s Goulwenn Tristant, by less than three hours. Her performance has set a new standard in the world of ultra-endurance sports.

No Rest for the Relentless

Hill’s journey isn’t over yet. She’s staying in Europe, gearing up for another Deca Triathlon in Poland in less than two weeks. Her relentless spirit continues to inspire athletes everywhere.
