Mandeep Nagra

Discover how Surrey councillor Mandeep Nagra rose from family business roots to politics, tackled key city challenges, and shapes Surrey’s future.

Introduction

Meet Mandeep Nagra—a Surrey councillor on a mission to make life better in his city. From growing up in a family-run meat shop to representing residents at City Hall, his journey is a mix of hard work, bold decisions, and steady ambition. In this article, we explore how he got here, what drives him, and why he continues pushing for positive change in Surrey.

Early Life and Background

Mandeep Nagra grew up in Vancouver before his family settled in Surrey in the early 2000s. From a young age, he was immersed in the family’s Fraserview Meats business, learning firsthand the values of hard work, service, and community support.

Education has been important to Nagra: while balancing family life and business responsibilities—he and his wife Rajpreet are raising two boys, Aveer and Kabar—he’s also pursuing an online business degree from UBC Sauder School of Business, proving that learning never stops.

Career Journey

Nagra started in the family’s meat store chain, Fraserview Meats, and later ventured into managing Scottsdale Lanes bowling alley alongside relatives, gaining valuable experience in customer relations and management.

In 2022, he ran for city council with the Safe Surrey Coalition and won, earning over 24,000 votes—the eighth-highest total among candidates . As a councillor, he’s focused on making small business licensing more streamlined and efficient, drawing on his own experiences to reduce bureaucratic hurdles for entrepreneurs .

He’s also been a vocal advocate for establishing the Surrey Police Service, believing that a local force is essential for neighbourhood safety and community responsiveness .

Current Role & Future Outlook

Now in his second term, Nagra is one of just two councillors from his original slate. He remains active and engaged, balancing council tasks with his ongoing business ventures and studies .

Looking forward, he aims to continue streamlining small business processes, improving healthcare coordination at the municipal level, and securing Surrey’s own police force to better serve residents.

Conclusion

Mandeep Nagra’s story is one of practical experience turned into public service. He brings a grounded, business-minded approach to his political role, pushing for efficiency, safety, and better services in Surrey. His journey highlights the impact of local leadership—rooted in community, shaped by challenges, and focused on real results for citizens.
